Who's Behind BetterWorks?

Hi, I’m Julia Porter, but everyone calls me Jules. I'm a nonprofit leader, facilitator, and program designer with 20+ years of experience working in hundreds of communities across Canada and globally. I’ve held senior leadership roles as Director of Programs at Jays Care Foundation and Director of North American Programs at Right To Play, where I helped transform both organizations and designed initiatives that reached tens of thousands of children and youth every year. Some highlights of my work include:

  • Transforming Jays Care into a national leader in sport-for-development, expanding its reach to more than 59,000 youth annually.
  • Designing and facilitating programs with BGC’s (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs), Indigenous communities, UN-aligned agencies, and grassroots organizations from Uganda to Canada’s Far North.
  • Serving as an international consultant with the SeriousFun Network, helping to design therapeutic recreation camps in Namibia, Botswana, Thailand, Ireland, and South Africa.
  • Co-creating trauma-aware, equity-centred programs that earned national and international recognition, including:
